Mat Rental vs. Purchase: There is a Difference in Quality, Fit

by Austin Ruhoff on April 10, 2012

We are sometimes asked why a company should purchase mats for their business when rental mats are available. It is true that renting mats can save you money in the short term. If that is your only goal, you can certainly accomplish it with basic mat rentals.

But just as with furniture or appliance rentals, if you look at the prices you’ll be charged over time combined with the lower quality, ill-fitting sizes and cleanliness factor, you may very well find that you are better off all around with a mat purchase.

Mat rental companies typically offer smaller, standard sizes that may not fit your particular needs. As a result, the customer may need multiple mats that can diminish the overall business appeal and cause increased safety concerns as well. Rental mats are typically basic styles, and may not have the various types that can keep your customers safer and employees more comfortable in the workplace as well. That’s because a truly effective mat program includes scraper mats, scraper/wiper mats, wiper mats, anti-fatigue mats and anti-slip mats. In other words, there are differences with mat designs, and it is absolutely not a case of one size fits all.

While there are some short-term advantages to renting mats vs. purchasing them, we hope you will do your research and compare prices, services, style of mats, and quality before making a final decision. At Ultimate Mats, we feature high performance mats constructed of recycled materials and with a performance life of 5-10 years, depending on use. We are proud of the quality of our mats and how they perform the tasks needed, including water and soil retention, and even helping with fatigue and body aches from work stations where employees must stand for long periods of time.

See how we can actually improve the quality and safety of your workplace and save you money at the same time!
