Floor Mats with Your Logo

by Chris Martin on January 30, 2014

Every business should have some type of floor mat near their front door. The better the mat’s ability to trap dirt and moisture from the footwear of people entering the business, the cleaner and safer the interior floors will be.

But perhaps you’re a business owner who likes to march to the beat of your own drum. You pride yourself on being unique and different from your competitors. If this describes you, then you’re in luck: you don’t have to resign yourself to using any old floor mat. Instead, get a floor mat emblazoned with your business’s logo, name, and/or slogan!

A logo mat can double as floor protection and additional marketing for your enterprise. It can help your business stand out from nearby storefronts while strengthening your brand recognition. And it represents another way that you as a business owner can express your creativity.

Make It Your Own

If you’re thinking about what type of design would look good on your logo mat, here’s rule number one: make sure that it identifies your business. Believe it or not, some people get so caught up in creating a fancy design that they forget to put the name of their business on the mat itself! Also, if your business name is nonspecific (like “Smith & Sons”), it’s smart to also include a reference to the type of industry you’re in (like “Certified Public Accountants”). Finally, try to choose a look that is “evergreen,” meaning that it’s appropriate for any time of year and/or doesn’t embrace trends or fads which may be out of vogue in a few years’ time.

Be Creative, Not Cluttered

There are also some unwritten rules to consider when thinking about the precise design and appearance of your logo mat. For starters, think about the size of your logo and how much space you want it to take up on the mat surface. If you just want a small logo near the edge, don’t make the design too complex; conversely, a large design might “wash out” some images (like blowing up a low-quality photograph). Be judicious with your color choices: a varied color palette is fine, but a design with a high degree of color diversity may make your mat too busy or distracting. The same principle applies to word fonts and lettering, as overly-fancy characters may not show up well on a logo mat. In short, if there’s a question about what looks good, you should probably err on the side of simplicity.

Logos are Digitally Printed

Ideally, you want to deliver your finished design or logo in a digital format – specifically in a jpg, tif, eps, or cdr file. Hard copies of designs may be difficult to duplicate and end up not translating well to your floor mat. Also, stay away from generic “clip art” images that can be found on anyone’s computer. Digital photos of faces can be printed onto the mat if they are of high quality and aren’t too visually detailed.
